ALVARO MITSUNORI NISHIKAWA

Nishikawa was born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1987 and following his grandfather steps, graduated as a pharmacist from São Paulo University. Obtained a master’s degree from Medical School (USP) and a specialization degree in Clinical Studies from Harvard University.

In parallel, he has been practicing Tradicional Japanese Instruments that now are part of his way of life.

2023

• Participation in the Japanese National Tsugaru Shamisen Championship in Tokyo

• Presentation in the 110 years comemoration of Seiha Hougakku School in the NHK Hall

2022

• Tomonari (group for minyo and shamisen culture spread in America Latina) foundation in aliance with Kiyo Kaito and Victor Barbosa

• Sawari (shamisen school) foundation

• First shamisen and minyo presentation in Chile

 

2019

• Received the Junshihan title from Seiha Hougaku and the artistic name Utashimitsu – 雅楽志光

• Participation in the celebration of the 30th Esashi Oiwake Brazil with renowned artists from Japan in MASP (Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo), also “Grupo Min” 100th presentation

 

2017

• In commemoration of the Seiha Hougaku 103rd foundation anniversary, presented at the Japan National Theather (Tokyo)

• Represented Ryukyu Minyo Hozonkai Brazil group in Okinawa

 

2016

• Represented Kyodo Minyo Brazil in Japan at Budokan (Tokyo) in the national championship

 

2014

• Organization and participation in the 1st Festival Min, marking the foundation of “Grupo Min” (group composed by young descendants and non-japanese descendants for the maintenance of the minyo)

• Received Junshihou title from Seiha Hougaku for shamisen in Japan (Seiha Headquarters) having as evaluators the current and past grand masters (iemoto), Nakashima Kazuko sensei and Nakashima Yasuko sensei.

 

2013

• Summer course in Seiha Hougaku (Japan) with the renowned musician and professor Yuize Shinnichi. Intensive shamisen and 17gen lessons with professor Kakui

 

2010

• Started Ryukyu minyo and sanshin classes with Komesu Tadashi sensei

 

2004

• Started jiuta shamisen and koto classes in Seiha Brasil de Koto with Kitahara Utahito sensei

 

2003

• Tsugaru shamisen classes with Tsukasa Kaito and Yuzo Akahori

 

1994

• Started tsugaru shamisen and minyo classes with Yonemoto sensei
